More than 2,000 volunteer brass players performed the 24 notes of taps on May 19, ArmedForces Day, at 11 a.m local time, at veterans cemeteries and some U.S. military cemeteries overseas. Organized by VA and Bugles Across America, EchoTaps Worldwide honored veterans at almost all VA national cemeteries and state veterans cemeteries, NationalPark Service cemeteries and four American Battle Monuments Commission overseas cemeteries. Organizers hoped the event would interest brass players in volunteering to perform taps at military funerals of veterans year-round. Musicians formed lines through the cemeteries and performed a cascading version of taps.
